A Day in the Life of a Promotional Marketer (or in this case, “Promotional Barketer”)

We frequently get asked what exactly a promotional marketer does every day. Well, here is Zoey, our Director of Content Barketing, to show us what her typical day looks like as a Promotional Barketer.

8:55 AM: I know the day may get a little chaotic so I get in a bit early to power up my laptop and start the day with a little coffee in my favorite mug.

9:05 AM: I do a quick check in on a live promotion to make sure it’s running as it should, and then I write daily reports and emails. We generally send weekly or even daily reports to clients on a promotion’s progress and entry count. I like to go over these reports every day, as well as check any live promotions and web sever traffic. We want to be able to troubleshoot any issues before they happen. I also review any incoming email and review a set of rules and some text messaging scripts for an upcoming promotion.

9:45 AM: The mail arrives and I help sort it. Our office can get several large bins of AMOE mail each day for multiple promotions. We take turns sorting it to get it to the right project for tracking.

10:30 AM: Time to call winners! Depending on the project, we either call or email winners to let them know they have won. This is my favorite part of my job since I get to make people’s day by telling them about a prize they won. Sometimes people don’t believe they actually won, but I assure them it’s for real!

11:00 AM: Every day we send out prizes. Today it was a few Echo Dots. We can source prizes, and then we pack them up and ship them to winners. Someone is going to love getting these in a few days.

12:00 PM: Time for lunch. We don’t always have team lunches, but today we had a pizza day. I love pizza day. But where is mine?????

1:00 PM: Time to get back to work! I have a 1:00 meeting. We are talking about a new project, so we review the goals of the program and what type of promotions might work to help achieve those goals. Once I get all the information from the client, I create an estimate with pricing, timing and various options. I love to come up with fun solutions that help clients, like Instant Win Games to get people excited about engaging in a rewards program, or a social sweepstakes to gain new followers on a social channel.

1:45 PM: I need to make a few copies for my team before the next meeting.

2:00 PM: Next I have an internal status meeting to discuss where we are with our team’s projects. We always have a lot of projects that run at the same time, so we have a weekly status to discuss the current going on of each project and what the next steps and deliverables are.

2:30 PM: Time for a little paperwork and filing!

3:00 PM: The creative just came in for a new program. I need to review it and make notes on any changes before presenting it to the client. So far it checks out, but we may want to take a closer look at the copy. I will pass this to our copy editor to make sure there are no mistakes.

3:45 PM: Now that the creative changes have been documented and sent back to the creative team, it’s time to check in with accounting to make sure some invoices I had requested had been sent out. We have to make sure we stay on top of billing!

4:15 PM: Time to work on the timeline for our next Fortune 500 company project. These timelines can involve creative, tech, legal, and more — so we sometimes use a wall calendar to help us plan out phases of the promotion and lock down deliverable dates.

5:00 PM: How did it get to be so late? Time for a few quick client emails and a review of an updated set of Official Rules and I am done for the day!
